Phone of the Wind

There are still 2,562 people missing in Japan since the Tōhoku tsunami hit in 2011. 15,894 people have been reported as dead. When I was 18 I ate dinner with my Dad and a few of his Japanese friends on our way to Ōhshima Island. One died in the tsunami, and the Ōshima village was destroyed in the tsunami. In order to reconcile the missing who have not yet been found, a 70 year old man in Otsuchi Japan set up a telephone booth for family members to call their missing loved ones. He calls it Phone of the Wind.
This object and ritual serves as an acceptable social space to process loss and cope with unresolvable sadness.

I turned 29 in Napoli today.

I found these two Mark Borthwick pieces while going through my things. He gave me bits and pieces when I was his assistant that I keep as reminders of that time spent with him and in his studio. A lot of time listening to Violeta Parra, archiving images of his life, and making food. He's always playing. This time with advertising and the fashion industry. Concrete jungle, pigeon and trash. Jokes always on them, but they love it so no harm no foul
